  • Introduction: Sona Karapoghosyan (film critic and curator)

In the 1960s, animated film became one of the most creative genres of Armenian cinema. It was one of the few areas of filmmaking that offered women an opportunity during the Soviet era. Between the 1970s and the 1990s, four important female directors began their work in this field. The program, consisting of 10 films, offers a glimpse of the oeuvre of Elvira Avakyan, Gayane Martirosyan, Naira Muradyan, and Lyudmila Sahakyants, who enriched this art form not only with their own unique stylistic sensibility, but also with new preoccupations, such as contemporary life or politics.
